Caring of your baskets

A furniture polish such as liquid gold can be sprayed or brushed on finished baskets, it will add a luster and help prevent the baskets from getting too brittle.

Once or twice a year give your baskets a bath. In the summer you can take them outside and use the hose to rinse them off. In the winter, put them in the shower. They don’t need to be soaked for a long period, just rinse off the dust and let them dry. Then rub them down in mineral oil or baby oil.

Old Baskets can be reshaped by simply wetting them and making any adjustments necessary. Then put oil back into them, by rubbing with mineral oil or baby oil.

If there is anyone tip that I could give a new basket maker, it would be…….. The weave goes where the stake leads it – If your stake leans in – the basket will lean. If the stakes are not evenly spaced, your sides will not be even.
